ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIANS ABROAD (ANA) HOLDS ITS FIRST LECTURE SERIES IN NIGERIA, AND DISBURSES 10 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TO 10 UNIVERSITIES.
The Association of Nigerians Abroad (ANA), with members in several countries except Nigeria, will hold its first Lecture Series, titled "Redefining the Nigerian Educational Goals and Leadership", in Nigeria on December 15, 2004, at Abuja University Campus , Abuja, from 12noon-4p.m.. An evening reception with light entertainment , including Scholarship Fund raising, follows at 6:00p.m. at the Nicon Hilton Hotel, in Abuja.
Since 1999, the 11 year-old organization has awarded thirty – two scholarships to deserving Nigerians attending Nigerian Universities.
This year’s 10 geographically spread awards to 10 universities at 20,000Naira each, include, for the first time, 5 awards to medical students, and one (1) award to a physically challenged student. Additional information is available on www.ananet.org.
Every year, ANA’s Scholarship Awards have been increasingly competitive among qualified Nigerian Students, attending Nigerian Universities.
This year’s awards, determined by academic merit and economic need, will be disbursed at the Abuja event, where the winners from across Nigeria have been invited at ANA’s transportation, lodging and other incidental expenses.
This year’s 10 winners represent the following Universities: University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile-Ife, University of Port Harcourt, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Delta State University, Abraka, Ebonyi State University and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture.
The event will be chaired by the distinguished Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (AD, Lagos). The Guest Speaker will be ANA’s former member, and a former professor of Biology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, the honorable Representative from Osun State, Dr. Sola Adeyeye.
Many of the invited prominent Nigerians from Universities, government and private sectors have confirmed their willingness to attend the event and support the Scholarship effort.
