A. N. A. COMMITTEES

In order to accomplish its objectives, ANA is organized into Program Committees, and there are committees dealing specifically with the following main programs:

1

EDUCATION:
The focus is to stem the continuing deterioration of higher education in Nigeria. Support is generally in terms of collection/supply of books, journals, equipment, computers, etc. to these institutions.

Also, we are linking Nigerian Universities with universities overseas, and the Academies of Sciences worldwide. 16 of the country's 33 universities responded to our invitation to participate in the education program. And more...

TECHNOLOGY:
The goal is for technology transfer to Nigeria. The technology committee is now implementing the setup of our own true email link to Nigeria, and we are a founding member of the NIG (Nigeria Internet Group) charged with developing internet policy for Nigeria.

POLITICAL AFFAIRS:
We are a non-partisan organization. Our members hold all kinds of political beliefs. However, our constitution enjoins us to seek a democratic governance for Nigeria, and to support respect for the civil, political and religious liberties of Nigerians. Also we believe in a united democratic Nigeria and we are opposed to any form of dictatorship, military or civilian.

Duties of the PAC include the following:
...the committee shall

  1. serve as a non-partisan organ of the association on political and civil liberties matters.
  2. work to end, permanently, the involvement of the military in the governance of Nigeria.
  3. work for the establishment, development and entrenchment of social justice and a democratic culture.
  4. shall pursue programs and activities that enhance the political unity of Nigeria.

HEALTH:
The programs follow essentially those of education and technology committees, albeit with a focus on health issues.

 The longterm principal objectives are:

  • to establish Nutrition and Primary Health Care centres for the welfare of children and pregnant women of Nigeria.
  • to provide to the Nigerian public adequate information on the prevention of Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and on other sexually transmitted diseases.
  • to create, diseminate and promote relevant information on the benefits of adequate nutrition and health care practices to the over all well-being of our citizens.
